Punchbowl National Cemetery

Punchbowl National Cemetery

Although the Punchbowl National Cemetery isn’t used today for human sacrifice, it does hold centuries of history and is the resting place of hundreds of those who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice.

Located in the Pu’u-o-waina crater, the Punchbowl cemetery is a beautiful, yet moving place that thousands come to every year to pay their respects. Located a few miles northwest of Waikiki Beach the cemetery will take you through local streets and up the scenic edge of the crater before you’re greeted head on with the entrance.

As you’re driving up the crater and right before you enter you’ll find a great view looking back on Waikiki where you’ll be able to clearly see Diamond Head.

As you make your way into the Punchbowl Cemetery you’ll notice there aren’t an abundance of crosses, but simple memorials for the nearly 50,000 fallen soldiers that have given their lives for the good of all.

Visiting the cemetery isn’t exactly the most uplifting activity you can do when visiting Oahu, but it is a great reminder of the sacrifices many have made so that we can live free.
